What you missed

Previous meetings

If you haven't yet been to one of our meetings, this is what you've missed so far:

June 22nd - Launch - see separate post

July 1st - Modern Day Etiquette. William Hanson from The English Manner minded our Ps and Qs and talkied to us about social networking protocol, etiquette and eating asparagus in the 21st century. http://www.theenglishmanner.com/

August 5th - Food glorious food..... We were joined by the nice folk
from Melanie's Kitchen who demonstrated the art of making canapes,
and then we ate them!

On September 2nd we were unfortunate in that our zumba dance lady had to cry off with a broken foot.  However, Sam Vernon, daughter of one of our members and salsa teacher extraordinaire stepped into the breach to help most of us discover we've got 2 left feet.

A bit of history

A bit about Mandy and how WINGS got started.

This is me or it was, a couple of years and a couple of stones ago.

I've been in Bristol, via a convoluted route from Newcastle, for 10 years in June. Last year I moved to Keynsham from Hanham with Matt, (husband) and Archie (lame old lurcher) .   (Sad update - lame old lurcher shuffled off this mortal coil in July.  R.I.P)

Just before xmas I met up with my friend Claire, a Surrey girl, (she's the one in the blue - I'm the one in the slightly off-white!) for lunch in Newbury. "We're starting a new W.I. - Next Generation. It's sooo exciting" she announced.

And so I was hooked. If Surbiton could have a Next Generation W.I. full of beautiful, intelligent, domestic goddesses, why couldn't Keynsham??

Chums gathered together, and between us we just about fulfilled the above criteria. A bit of leaflet pushing gained us another committee member (one casualty along the way when she realised it was actually going to be quite hard work) and here we are: a launch meeting just about organised, a list of speakers and events sorted for the next few months, blog published and email connected
Can't wait to get started - roll on June!!

And our ex-committee members:

Hi, I'm Emma, I've lived in Keynsham for a little over 3 years now, with my very soon to be husband Jason and my two children. I'm currently not working and I don't profess to be a domestic goddess (but I do sometimes bake!! ;) I'm an avid crafter specialising in Scrapbooking and I can lose many hours playing with pretty paper.  Like Mandy I also own a hound, and like 90% of the dogs (or so it seems) in Keynsham he is a Jack Russell.

I'm looking forward to this new group and all the new skills and friends it will bring - hope to see you in June!

And over to Janis.

This is me! I moved to Bristol from Gosport in Hampshire about three years ago. I am not in any way a domestic goddess - won't cook and not into making things. However the WI new generation is about trying new things, for example kick boxing. Come along to our launch in the Keynsham Wine Bar on June 22 and have a go!

Unlike Mandy and Emma I have a cat, not a dog. She is a 'blue' British Short Hair. She is very aloof and rather gorgeous, but unfortunately has rather a miserable disposition. However, she does not take after her owner. Photograph of gorgeous cat to follow.    (and maybe a more flattering photo of Janis!  - Mandy)
